5 Excuses People Use to Avoid CrossFit

Curiosity can get people in the door, but what prevents them from committing? We all have those friends and family members who use every excuse in the book. TWL provides you with a list of the 5 excuses people use to avoid CrossFit and responses to debunk those excuses.

IT’S SO EXPENSIVE: Compared to what? Your local CrossFit box is much more than just a gym. The typical CrossFit community ensures an experienced, certified CrossFit coach whose primary objective is to teach you a wide-ranging approach to health, fitness, longevity, vitality and life.  It’s an all-inclusive strength and endurance program where every movement is coached. It’s a community. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a life altering experience and it’s fun. Ultimately, people will spend money on what is important to them. If your health is important, CrossFit is in your price range.

I NEED TO GET IN SHAPE FIRST: The reason we do any exercise is to eventually master that exercise. Scaling is encouraged and makes CrossFit possible for everyone. Coaches are there to help direct you through every workout and a great coach will know what’s best for your level of experience. Sometimes even having zero knowledge whatsoever on how to exercise is more beneficial. Form and technique can be critiqued right off the bat instead of having to unlearn bad habits created from training alone. It doesn’t matter where you start, only that you begin.

I DON’T HAVE TIME: We all have the same 24 hours in a day to distribute towards the things we need to in life. Yet, how are some people more productive and successful than others? They EXERCISE. Exercise alone increases energy, improves sleep, helps you focus, strengthens your physical condition, gives you more confidence, and relieves stress. The list of benefits could go on and on. CrossFit only takes 60 minutes out of your day. You owe it to yourself to make the time to better your life anyway you can.

ITS TOO INTENSE: At first glance Crossfit may look intimidating, but each workout can be scaled to meet one’s individual work capacity. Eventually your body and mind will prepare, and become conditioned, for the different levels of intensity.  CrossFit is regulated and monitored intensity. That intensity should only be increased after a solid foundation in technique and form has been successfully developed.  It’s not going to be easy, it’s going to be worth it.

I’M TOO OLD:  The worst excuse yet! Nobody is too old to live a healthy lifestyle. If properly applied, CrossFit can help increase bone density and improve joint health, mobility and stability. Strength training becomes MORE important as we all age. Don’t give up on yourself, age is just a number.
