By now, you’re probably hard at work coming up with a game plan for 20.2. To help you zero in on the best approach for you, we teamed up with The Progrm to get their expert advice.

Here are some of the more important takeaways.

1. Do the Dumbbell Thrusters and Double-Unders Unbroken…

… but consider breaking up the toes-to-bar from the beginning.

The TTBs are where a lot of us are going to struggle. They’re taxing on the grip, and it’s the type of movement that once you start to fail, it’s really hard to get them back. Miss a double-under and you can easily get the next. Start missing TTBs and you could be in trouble, because the only remedy is significant rest.

So, be proactive and perhaps opt to break up the reps from the get-go.

2. Use the DUs as Recovery

This isn’t to say that double-unders are easy. But when you compare them to the other two movements — and as part of a nonstop 20-minute AMRAP — they’re going to be your best chance to get a break.

Keep breathing here. Don’t hold your breath! And, importantly, think of keeping your body loose and relaxed. A common mistake athletes make with DUs is tensing up their grip and arms and jumping much higher than they need to. Don’t create more work for yourself. You’ll just fatigue faster.

Treat your DUs as your rest period. Stay calm.

3. Take Your Transitions Seriously…

… because there are so many! How efficiently you transition is going to matter as much as how efficiently you perform the three movements. They’re a significant part of this AMRAP, so practicing how to best go about them is an important part of your strategy.
