It’s shocking to acknowledge in this day and age, we’re still determining a woman’s worth based on her appearances, and yet here we are, watching as online trolls tell the women of functional fitness they’re bulky, manly, unattractive. Kara Saunders has no time for you. In a post on Instagram, she set the record straight about what she thinks of all the naysayers.

* THIS BODY * . – is 28 years old – ?was grown by and is a branch of my beautiful sweet mum – cuddles my loved ones – ?represents years of commitment and dedication – ?will carry my future babies – is healthy and strong as a result of hard work and good nutrition – is resilient – was fortified with persistence – is not limited to any of the above qualities . I’m proud of everything it has done, can do and will do in the future. . This is not a by product of anything other than what is listed above. If you question it, gawk at it, or need to find another excuse as to why I am this way, I assure you this only makes you weak and foolish. If in your eyes true grit seems so far fetched than you will never get to experience that satisfying feeling of pure accomplishement as a result of my favourite phrase right now…. “Relentless Persistence” . #TendToYourOwnGrass #BeBetter . ? @thefitographer

Saunders points to an important lesson everyone needs to learn: we don’t care about what your body looks like. We care about what it can do.

It’s not exactly breaking news that women are judged for their looks. Camille Leblanc-Bazinet has stood up to people criticizing her stomach, defending what she affectionately refers to as her “power pouch.” Brooke Ence has been accused of using steroids.

That won’t fly with Saunders, and her post is a much-needed reminder that the human body is an amazing machine, regardless of its shape or size.
