You’ve seen your favorite athletes posting about it on social media. You know it has something to do with mobility. But what is ROMWOD, exactly, and why should you care about it?

What is ROMWOD?

ROM refers to range of motion, and it’s what ROMWOD is all about. ROMWOD offers stretching routines that can boost your performance by increasing your range of motion, improving position, posture, power and efficiency; optimize your range of motion; and speed up recovery by increasing the release of hyaluronic acid and resetting your central nervous system.

The minds behind ROMWOD know that one size does not fit all, which is why they offer hundreds of routines you can sort through based on your goals, the amount of time you have and the body part you’re focused on. Don’t know where to begin? No problem. You can follow one of their pre-set routines.

Important note: remember that mobility and flexibility are not the same thing! Mobility is the ability to move freely without stress on the body, and it’s an umbrella term that includes flexibility. Flexibility refers to how well our soft tissues can stretch. The two terms are not the same, but they do affect each other.

Why is Mobility Important?

Where do we even begin?! Poor mobility is at the core of so many of our limitations and injuries, and it becomes even more important as we age. Proper mobility can eliminate everyday aches and pains, and it’s particularly used for daily maintenance with the goal of preventing injury in troublesome areas. People are very often unaware that a muscle strain or injury was actually the result of bad mobility and could have been prevented. That’s why athletes love tools like ROMWOD.

Even if injury isn’t on your radar, mobility is crucial for your general progress. In fact, it could be the biggest thing holding you back. Strength and speed are necessary; but they won’t do you any good if your lack of mobility is holding you back from performing a clean thruster because you can’t lock out overhead, or squatting below parallel because your hips are so tight.

Athletes Who Swear by It

There are all sorts of big names who proudly show off their ROMWOD skills, and for a good reason. Take CrossFit Games athlete Noah Ohlsen, for instance; or how about the unbeatable Olympic weightlifting champion Mattie Rogers? The list goes on and on, and one thing is for certain: ROMWOD is no joke. It works.
