The debate surrounding whether or not it’s safe to practice CrossFit while pregnant continues; but one woman has done her part to put the naysayers to rest: Michaela North not only competed at the CrossFit Games while pregnant — she won!

North was a few weeks pregnant when she set foot in Madison with her team, the Wasatch Brutes. The team competition instantly became more difficult once Rich Froning decided to switch to it from competing as an individual; and his team, CrossFit Mayhem, has always been one to watch. But this year, it was North and the rest of the Wasatch Brutes that were standing at the top of the podium when it was all over.

Fight for it.

I wish I could remember every second after winning the @crossfitgames – it was kind of one big happy blur. But the grind we put in day in and day out as a team together is something I definitely remember. We sacrificed together, suffered together, laughed together, sang together (like, a lot) helped each other through aches, pains, vomit, blood, sweat and tears. We learned so much about ourselves as individuals and even more about one another. I will cherish the moment we became Champs for a long time im sure, but the year we spent preparing for it, is something I’ll remember forever. I know I’m pregnant and not competing this year, but don’t count the @wasatchbrutes out just yet. 2019 isn’t that far away. ?? #missyouguys #myteam @brute.strength @puorilife @structurabodytherapies @ultimatefoodessentials @fnx_fit @clinchgearhq

North is now roughly 10 weeks into her pregnancy, her belly steadily growing; but don’t think that’s going to stop her from hitting the gym. Now, she’s happily sharing what she says will likely be her final pregnancy with her Instagram audience.

One of the greatest things about CrossFit is that anyone can do it — that’s the beauty of scaling. That hasn’t stopped the often heated discussion about whether or not it’s appropriate for women and their unborn babies. As an elite athlete, though, who likely has great awareness of her body and works with a variety of professionals, North is the one most qualified to determine what’s right for her. Besides, it’s never too early to teach your baby muscle-ups and burpees.
