If you follow Olympic weightlifting, you probably know the name Alyssa Ritchey. She’s a 49kg weightlifter for Team USA and has dominated on the platform more than once. Her body is a beautifully sculpted machine, powdered by endless hours of rigorous training and precise nutrition. Most of us would look at her physique and admire her strength, power, all the amazing things she can do. However, not everyone has caught up yet. After Ritchey posted a bikini photo online, she received criticism from a follower for her muscular form.

Not one to take this lying down, Ritchey responded with a post of her own — but one built on kindness. She wrote, “I hope one day your little girl or boy doesn’t get bullied, by you or others, because they look different … I love being strong, sexy, & defined … I am completely secure & in love with the way I look.” You can check out her full message here.

This was the original photo.

Most of us would kill for a body like Ritchey’s, and we’ve come a long way in learning to appreciate bodies of all shapes and sizes. We still have more work to do, though.

In the meantime, we’ll be over here admiring her lifts.
