Have you ever wondered about the various movements of functional fitness and how many times they each showed up at the Games over the years? You’re not alone. Someone else had the same curiosity, so they did a little homework and came up with this chart.

Reddit user GoodbyeFP wrote,”I wanted to know how often different exercises were used at each of the Games. Due to the sheer number of different exercises I had to collect some together, such as one legged squat and overhead squat both being counted as a squat.” They later explained of the pie chart, “It just looks at how often an exercise was used at one of the twelve CrossFit games, as long as they did one rep of an exercise at each year of the games that would count for 12 … While this is not the most in depth look at the games I think it provides a good guide for what an athlete would most likely do at the games and what muscles are used the most.”

Exercise frequency at the CrossFit Games from r/crossfit

Perhaps unsurprisingly, exercises like pull-ups, burpees, deadlifts, and muscle-ups are quite common. Others? Not so much. We’re looking at you, L-sits and softball throws.

While this merely gives us a basic idea of how popular certain movements are in competition, it’s still a pretty interesting indication of what we might be able to expect at 2019’s Games and beyond.
