Times, they are a-changing. And by “times,” we obviously mean the CrossFit Regionals and Games. After this past weekend’s Invitational, Dave Castro made a number of exciting announcements. One was that teams for Regionals and the Games will, moving forward, be reduced from six to four. Others are in regards to how the various regions will work for the 2018 season.
For starters, Latin American is now going to have its own Regional. The region has its work cut out for them, though, as there will only be one qualifying spot for males and females.
Castro also announced exciting news for the Meridian region: it will be split in two! Northern Europe will have its own Regional; southern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will have another.
The idea here is to make the distribution of athletes more even across the world.
Lastly, you can expect changes to the number of qualifying spots: North America has been reduced from sending 30 people the Games, down to 25; the rest of the nation previously had 10 spots but will now have 15.
Plan on a Games season that’s more competitive than ever!
