If you need some serious inspiration, here is it. 36-year-old Pittsburgh native Brandi Darby is an Olympic weightlifter. She also happens to be legally blind. Do you think that’s going to stop her? Not a chance.

According to the Team USA website, Darby recently made her way to USA Weightlifting’s American Open Series 2 in Valley Forge, PA. On the platform, she successfully executed a 65kg snatch and 70kg clean and jerk, for a 135kg total. This was enough to earn her one silver and two bronze medals in the 35+ category, as a 90kg lifter. Oh, and she also became the first legally blind weightlifter to win a medal at a national competition.

She told USAW, “There are a lot of us who don’t have the confidence to try this or any sport because the challenges seem bigger than the possibilities.” After discovering Olympic weightlifting, Darby said, “It was love at first lift.”

With one heck of a positive attitude, plus Coach Tom Duer backing her up, Darby is the role model we all need.
