When we last wrote about the leaderboard standings for 18.1, a lot of names were still missing. With the submission deadline having passed for 18.1 scores, we can now see what’s what. Of note? Samantha Briggs ended up redoing it and beating her original score of 409 reps — by a lot. She’s now in first place, with 452 reps. It looks like Holte also redid it for a higher score, landing in third with 420 reps (tied with Laura Horvath). Second? Annie Thorisdottir, with 428 reps.

The men’s leaderboard, conversely, has a few newer names. In first place with 492 reps is Jonathan Varela. Second is Malachi Bennett, with 489 reps. Third is Nicolai Duus, with 487 reps. According to their CF profiles, all three gentlemen are experienced in the Open, but have not yet advanced beyond.

Could this year bring us some new competition?…

We all know by now it’s way too early to make any calls. The leaderboard will evolve tremendously over the next four weeks; and even when all is said and done, Open scores aren’t a 100% accurate indication of how each athlete will perform in Regionals and ultimately, the Games. In truth, it’s not any indication at all.

In the meantime, get excited, cheer on your favorite athletes and get ready for 18.2!
