If you’ve deadlifted anything even remotely heavy, you’ve probably already tried doing so with a mixed grip — one hand over and one under, so your palms are facing the opposite directions. Using a mixed grip helps take some of the pressure off your hands, so your grip won’t be as much of a limiting factor. Sam Briggs put it to good use recently, while doing hang power cleans with an axle bar. Check out the video below!

An axle bar can offer a more challenging workout due to its wider diameter, making it tougher to grip. You can use it like you would use a regular barbell, but it’ll give your WOD a nice little twist.
