What happens when you’re facing adversity? You have two choices: You can let it beat you, or you can put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.
The WOD Life recently collaborated with six-time CrossFit Games competitor (and member of the 2021 demo team!) Khan Porter to come up with our latest limited edition print, and we think you’re going to love the meaning behind it.
One of the many things we love about Khan is that he’s always been vocal about how important mental health is. Roughly 20% of Australians report some sort of mental health issue, with women reporting in higher numbers than men. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate, and it can range from irritating to downright debilitating.
Khan has bravely shared his own battles with anxiety, helping to remove the stigma and normalize the conversation around mental health.
For him, over the years, this has meant rediscovering the joy in training and always encouraging a holistic approach to health — mind, body, and soul.
We were eager to collaborate with Khan and are thrilled to introduce you to perhaps our most meaningful design yet.
Khan is bold, energetic, passionate, which might explain why purple is his favorite color. But you might also notice the double arrow toward the bottom of his shorts. Khan has this pattern tattooed on both his thumb and leg.
The tattoo on his leg is actually two triangles. The top represents what you might be experiencing when you’re filled with all the thoughts. The triangle below it, on the other hand, is blank, signifying a feeling of emptiness. People who’ve struggled with their mental health might recognize these states of being: one being totally overwhelming while the other is totally empty.
Khan shares that these tattoos represent a challenging time in his own life, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: The double arrow refers to always pushing forward, always forging on in the face of challenges. It’s a small but powerful reminder that if you’re in a dark place, you can get through it. On the other side of this darkness is something amazing.
Apart from the design, you can expect the same unbeatable quality and functionality that you get from all of The WOD Life’s products. This limited edition design will include a full range of apparel for both men and women, complete with high-waisted shorts and headbands.
Our clothes give you the exact coverage and support you want without hampering your mobility and freedom of movement.
If you’re struggling with your mental health, remember that there are all sorts of little things you can do to possibly find some brightness in your day:
- Move your body, even if it’s just a leisurely walk around the block. Get your blood flowing!
- Journaling has been proven to reduce stress and improve your mood. Put the pen to paper and get your thoughts out.
- Audit your social media usage. Are you following people online who make you feel bad about yourself? It might be time to put some distance between yourself and them.
- Nourish yourself with lots of wholesome food, getting the right balance of healthy fats, protein, and carbs.
- A warm bath can improve your mental and emotional health, especially if you’re dealing with depression. Grab your bubbles and your rubber ducky.
And remember, there’s nothing wrong with asking for help. Talk to someone you trust, like a close friend, family member, or mental health professional. You don’t have to go through this alone.
Millions of people all around the globe struggle with their mental health — with problems and illnesses you can’t always see. We’re so proud to have worked with Khan to bring you something from the heart. Shop with The WOD Life today.
