This smoothie is a complete meal and looks as good as it tastes! The star of the smoothie is the beetroot, which is high in iron and a good source of magnesium. Recent studies have also shown it can help boost exercise performance; so keep it in mind as a pre-workout source too. Combined with the cacao, it really does taste like a red velvet chocolate cake. The banana and protein powder help with your muscle recovery and the zucchini will give you an extra nutrient boost AND make your smoothie extra creamy.
TIP: Steam, pre-portion and freeze your beetroot ahead of time so it’s ready to go.
Layer it up with coconut or Greek yogurt, granola for some added crunch and top with fresh (or frozen) blueberries and extra chia seeds.
- ½ steamed then frozen beet
- ½ cup steamed then frozen zucchini
- 1 medium banana
- 180ml almond milk
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 ½ tbsp maple syrup
Blend all ingredients together for 2 minutes or until thick and creamy.
