Another day. Another event. Another aggressive cut that’s brought the pool of competitors down to just 10. Day 3 of the 2019 CrossFit Games opened with the sprint course, and for some of the biggest names in the sport, this is the end of the road.

For the ladies, two-time champion Annie Thorisdottir, Alessandra Pichelli, Laura Horvath, Brooke Wells, 2013’s fittest Sam Briggs, and Sara Sigmundsdottir all finished outside the top 10, bringing their competitive season to a close.

On the men’s side, Patrick Vellner, Lukas Högberg, and Chandler Smith are officially cut.

Spectators have had many thoughts about the format this year, and even the athletes are starting to voice their opinions. Thorisdottir, never one to really say anything even remotely close to negative or opinionated, shared this on Instagram.

This year certainly leaves far less room for error, and very little time to recover if you have even one bad event. Do you think this is the best way to find the fittest?
