With Dave Castro and HQ exploring all options when it comes to what to do with the 2020 Games, the CrossFit community has been eager for an update.
Will the Games be cancelled? Postponed? A third option that could keep it on schedule while following pandemic protocol is to move it online.
All three options offer their own pros and cons. And while we don’t yet know what will ultimately be decided, there has been an interesting development. According to Fox 6 Now, Governor Tony Evers announced that he submitted an application to FEMA to use the Alliant Energy Center as a second alternative care facility, in case it’s needed.
It seems that nothing has been decided yet, and indeed, Alliant Energy Center’s calendar still lists the Games for July 29 through August 2.
Circumstances are changing by the day, and Castro already confirmed they’ll need to make a decision quickly.
Stay tuned…

Coronavirus has turned the world upside down. Sanctionals have been postponed, moved online, and even canceled completely. And it’s left many wondering what will ultimately happen with the Games.
Dave Castro spoke with Tommy Marquez and Sean Woodland — the hosts of Talking Elite Fitness — in a live interview, explaining that HQ is still weighing their options. He noted that they’ll have to make a decision pretty quickly.
Castro said (per Morning Chalk Up), “There’s delaying it, there’s delaying it a year just skipping the year, there’s also talk about doing it online, so we’re looking at all options,” adding that not doing the Games is looking “more and more likely to happen.”
However, there’s still a chance things could change: “I think there’s a lot of value in just holding tight for a little bit longer and watching how all this plays out.”

If the Games are indeed canceled, what would happen to all of the athletes who already qualified or received an invite? Castro said, “My suggestion would be start over, don’t carry over,” though he added that the decision isn’t entirely his to make.
